On 16th June, Brede Primary School welcomed Amber Rudd, the Member of Parliament for Hastings and Rye.
The Headteacher, Nicole Cummins, took Amber on a tour of the school building and grounds. Amber commented on the calm, happy atmosphere in school and envied the beautiful view out across the Brede Valley.
Class One treated her to a little performance of The Bear Hunt in assembly before Amber presented Star of the Week certificates and the weekly attendance trophy to pupils.
Amber talked about her roles as the local MP and Home Secretary, discussing with pupils her responsibility in both positions.
At the end some children asked questions including, ‘Did you vote to leave or remain in Europe?’ To which Amber answered, ‘to remain’, going on to say that she will work hard to make sure we get the best for our country and that hopefully it will mean a better deal for our local fishermen.
Amber said:
“Thank you to all the staff and pupils at Brede Primary School for making me feel so welcome on my visit. I thoroughly enjoyed Class One’s fantastic performance in assembly and I was delighted to present Star of the Week and attendance awards to pupils.”
Amber finished off her visit by talking with staff about the challenges they face in education and the impact of local issues on the children and families who attend Brede Primary School.
Nicole Cummins, Headteacher commented:
“It was a pleasure to welcome Amber to Brede and I hope we provided an enjoyable interlude for her during some very tough days.”
